Our big guy is officially 2 years old! Funny how it seems like he’s been with us for ages, yet it seems like we were bringing him home from the hospital just yesterday. We just wouldn’t be complete without our Levi. We spent his actual birthday doing pretty normal things, with a few special treats mixed in. I made him special meals throughout the day (waffles, mac n’ cheese, and homemade pizza for dinner)–some of his favorites. The afternoon of his birthday we went to the Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen and he got to pick out a special treat. He picked a giant frosting covered “monster” cookie! And he thought it was the best thing ever. Levi’s actual birthday party will be in a couple of days, on December 6th. We are looking forward to a fun Curious George-filled afternoon!
Everything is pretty much the same here, except that Levi has finally branched out a little this month…he eats sandwiches! This has been a long time comin’. I’m especially appreciative, since sandwiches require little to no lunch planning or effort. He has also been doing better with leafy greens and a few other veggies he usually would avoid.
Levi did awesome with the time change this past month! He had hardly any trouble transitioning at all. He’s been pretty consistent about sleeping for 12.5-13 hours after his bedtime, so he just did the same with his “later” bedtime around Daylight Savings. Now that it is still really dark in the morning, he has been known to sleep until 8:45 AM if he gets to bed a little later the night before!
For his birthday, Levi got a road map rug (with some cars) from his Grandma and Grandpa, as well as a Curious George matching game from his Grammy and Papi. Both of which he loves! He has been in serious need of some age appropriate toys! Mr. Potato Head is still a favorite of his, as is his soccer ball.
He has been doing awesome with sitting through full length movies! This month we added Pocahontas to his viewing selection (more because I wanted to watch it than him) and he LOVED it.
Levi is a man on the move! He loves to walk everywhere, run at times, and he is getting more confident with walking up stairs while upright. He is still a little nervous when it comes to enclosed playgrounds (like at Chick-Fil-A or at Sojourn)–I think climbing through the tubes scares him a bit. We’ll have to give him some more practice with those!
Not too much is new here, except that Levi’s vocabulary is just growing by the day!
Still no plan for potty training. I’m thinking after we get back from FL in January…
This month we switched to disposable diapers at nighttime. For several weeks, Levi was waking in the morning about 75% of the time with wet PJs. I’m not sure what the change was, but all of the sudden his cloth diapers just became inadequate for nighttime use (even with double hemp inserts!). We just decided to switch to disposables at night and it has really helped. He will still have an occasional wet morning, but maybe about 10% of the time now. Once he is potty training, we will likely be using disposables at nighttime anyway (since we won’t be using enough cloth to make a load of wash within 1-2 days), so it just seemed like the right choice.
The first half of the month, independent play went really well. Levi even went in his room several times without me prompting him, closed the door and played for 20-30 minutes. The second half of this month, not so much. I’ve been so busy with work lately, that our morning routine of playing in his room has just not happened because I need to work earlier in the morning. I’m kind of bummed, since I was seeing progress, but I’m sure we’ll get back into our groove once this busy season is over.
First snow of the season this month! It came on November 17th and far too early for our Floridian family. Levi did enjoy walking around in it, however. He almost didn’t want to come inside until I mentioned hot chocolate 🙂
We also went to Nashville for Thanksgiving this month! It was a spur of the moment trip, just because we wanted to get away and found a great deal on a hotel. So the three of us enjoyed a day hanging in our hotel room and eating at some of Nashville’s delicious restaurants! Levi couldn’t get enough of the hotel. He especially loved the glass elevators and the gigantic 25 story lobby. We had a wonderful holiday!
Lastly, we announced this month that Levi is going to be a big brother! We are equally excited and terrified to add another little person to our family. We know that right now he has no idea what it means to be a big brother, but we are pretty sure he isn’t going to love it at first. Praying he loves having a little buddy around all the time! I’m almost 10 weeks along now, due on July 3rd.
Happy birthday to our sweet Levi Hudson–more affectionately known as “Hudsey!” We love you more with each passing day and couldn’t imagine life without you in it. We’re excited to enter this new year as we discover what this “two-year-old” stage is all about! Yikes.
