Henry: 18 Months Old

Processed with VSCO with f2 presetHi Henny Benny, as we have grown to call you! I know it’s been several months since my last little blog post about you. Forgive me! On Christmas Day, you turned 18 months, so I figured now is as good a time as any to update here with what you’re up to these days. At your 18 month check up a few days back, you were 27 lbs (85th%) and 35 inches tall (95th%), so you’re definitely still a big guy. When we are out, people often mistake you for a 2 year old because of how huge you are! You have been well into 2T clothes for a few months now. Here’s some more about these last few months:

EATING

Nothing really new here. You still eat A TON–more than your brother at most meals! You like just about everything, so I can’t even think of favorites for you at this point. You have pretty much mastered using a spoon and you’re working on figuring out a fork!

SLEEP

About a month ago, we officially transitioned to “one nap.” I write that in quotations because you are still needing a tiny little catnap around 10:30 or 11 AM each morning. We’ve been staying SUPER busy in the mornings (more than I’d really like to be) so that you can nap on the way home from wherever we go. That has been working nicely! Once you get that 10-15 minute power nap in the car, you are refreshed and ready to go until 1 PM when it’s time for your real nap. At that point, you’ll sleep from 1 until at least 3 PM. You still go down to bed with Levi around 7 PM each night and wake between 7/7:30 AM.

MOTOR SKILLS

The day you turned 17 months, you finally began walking! Hallelujah! We were at Grammy and Papi’s house and you walked to Papi as he held out a cookie for you. You walked for about a week following that (pretty wobbly), took a 3-4 day break and completely went back to crawling, and then began walking again (this time with much more stability!). So you’re now about a month into it and we are both LOVING it! You seem to love the freedom and the ease of getting around and I love not having to carry you/letting you crawl everywhere.

You have mastered climbing on to the couch, rocking chair, and Levi’s bed! You also get onto your stool to reach the counter top, but you have not yet figured out how to get off it. For Christmas this year, mommy and daddy bought you a scooter like Levi’s, so we are excited to help you learn to ride it! You also know how to kick a soccer ball now, and of course, you’re always trying to improve your awesome throwing skills.

TEETH

At 18 months, you now have 13 teeth, with your second canine about to break through any day now! Those molars took some time to fully come up and your first canine was right behind them. It’s been a tough month for you in the teething department! Often you’ll just hold your little mouth and whine. You’ve been drooling an insane amount, which has led to some yucky poops. I decided to use disposable diapers for the month while we wait for this to pass.

COMMUNICATION

Henry now knows how to say:

Thank you

Yes please

Doggie

Blankie

Night night

and something similar to Levi

Most of these words only I can understand, but there has been definite improvement! Sometimes, he’ll just make two humming sounds to represent the words he is wanting to say, which is pretty funny.

One thing that really changed over the past month or two is Henry’s tendency to throw fits! Just a simple “no” will send him screaming and throwing himself on the floor. Oui.

Levi: 4 Years Old!

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Happy 4th Birthday to our sweet Levi Hudson! We cannot believe that you are already 4 years old–time has surely flown by. I know this is about a month late, but I wanted to share a little update about you, since I love to look back on these posts and remember all the little things in your life! Levi, you are getting more intelligent and observant by the day! You LOVE to ask questions about EVERYTHING, all day long. Sometimes I think that I cannot handle one more question, but there you are with yet another one. Your daddy always encourages me, reminding me that you asking questions is good. It means you are learning and processing the world around you. He’s right, as always. Here’s a little update from the last 6 months:

EATING

Your eating is still the same as it was at 3.5 years old. You are still starting to become picky about some things, knowing what you like and dislike. You have finally come around to bell peppers again, after a few months of continually encouraging you to eat them. I’m sure that will be the case for many foods in your life. Blue box mac n’ cheese is still your favorite! At your check-up a few days ago, you weighed in at 34 pounds (40th %)–so up 2 lbs in the past 6 months. Also noteworthy is your height of 3’6″ (95th%)!

SLEEP

Sleep is still about the same as it was 6 months back. You are going down for a nap at 1 PM each day. Most days you don’t fight going down, but you have been waking up after only a 1 hour nap some days. I think you are slowly phasing out of your nap time, which I’m not looking forward to. You are still waking at 7 AM and going to bed at 7 PM.

MOTOR SKILLS

Your climbing abilities have improved these past six months, as well as your skills on your scooter! You love to run and jump around, especially with your brother. For your 4th birthday, you received your first set of “big boy” Legos from GG and Pepa, so your fine motor skills have really been tested with those. You enjoy building with those Legos very much! Your fine motor skills are also being challenged right now as you learn to write your letters. You are an extreme perfectionist and you grow discouraged when your writing is not exactly right. It’s been challenging for mommy to teach you because you often just want to give up! I’ve been trying to help you see that good handwriting can only come with practice.

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

SOCIAL SKILLS

Socially, you have greatly improved! You have become super friendly over the past few months, waving at anybody who happens to be walking by our house. You are learning a bit of Spanish and will say “hola,” “adios,” or “como estas?” to others when we are out in public. I’m very proud of you for your willingness to learn and grow in this area! Your good friend right now is Emilia. We have been meeting once a week for playdates and you two get along very well. You talk about school quite often and wanting to start! I know you are very ready, but I’m also a bit sad that this chapter of our time together is coming to a close.

COMMUNICATION/ATTITUDE

We can tell that your hormones are just all over the place at this age! Even the tiniest situation will cause you to burst into tears. I take comfort in knowing that this is normal for 4 year olds, but I also am caught off guard when you react so harshly. You love to boss Henry around, which causes me to have flashbacks multiple times a day of when I used to boss Uncle Scott around at your age! I always have to remind you of who Henry’s mommy is–not you 😉

WHAT HE’S INTO

Levi is all about his superheroes! You have around 20 now and play with them everyday. For Christmas, you received some toy soldiers that you have enjoyed playing with. Your favorite show is Lion Guard and your favorite movie is still Toy Story. Any type of art and craft activity gets you so pumped! You love coloring, playing with Play-Doh, painting, even using stickers. You’d much rather do things like that over any type of physical activity.

4TH BIRTHDAY

For your birthday this year, daddy really wanted to get you a t-ball tee and bat! You have enjoyed playing with that outside. We went out for a special dinner to Rainforest Cafe! You were in awe the entire time, but your brother was petrified. That made for an interesting evening! The week before your birthday, we had a little Toy Story “party” at Grammy and Papi’s house, which was so fun!

img_6234

We love you so much Hudsey! You may ask a bazillion questions a day, but we love your eagerness to learn and your maturity that is far beyond your years. We are excited to see what this year holds for you as we send you off to school and as your interests continue to grow. Happy 4th birthday, my love!

Henry: 14 and 15 Months

dsc_5321

Seems that time has gotten away from me here, since our Henry is two weeks shy of 16 months now!! Sorry, second baby! These last two months have been HUGE for Henry developmentally. He is starting to say a lot more words, mimic us, and he is definitely growing in his understanding of things! We had Henry’s 15 month check up on 9/27 and Henry tipped the scales at 25 lbs (88th%) and 33.5 inches tall (100th%). His doctor was amazed! I knew he had gained substantially over the last three months (since his 12 month check up), but I didn’t realize it was THAT much! He is now in 2T clothes and can even wear some of the same shorts as his skinny big brother!

EATING

Well, as you can imagine, with a giant baby, he’s not lacking in the eating department. Most days he will eat more than Levi! His favorites right now are bananas, pasta, popsicles, and cheese sticks, but I have yet to see more than 1-2 things that this baby truly didn’t like. Henry is a fantastic eater! He is also doing better with not throwing food after a little bit of training and mild discipline.

Henry is still taking 4 -4 oz servings of whole milk per day, but we have fully transitioned to sippy cups (instead of bottles). He loves his Munchkin 360 cups!

SLEEPING

Henry’s night sleep is still solid: 7 PM to 7/7:30 AM each day! However, I can tell he is transitioning to one nap during the day. He is taking FOREVER to fall asleep for both naps now and it’s throwing his entire schedule off. This is way earlier than Levi was ready to transition to one nap, but pretty normal for his age.

MOTOR SKILLS

Not much new here! Henry still is not walking and barely standing without support. I’ve been trying to practice standing with him everyday, and he is just so timid. His doctor is not super concerned, given Levi’s later gross motor skills, but said she would like to put him in PT if he is still not walking come 18 months. I’m glad she is laid back about it, but I’m ready for this guy to walk. He is so heavy to carry these days! He can, however, climb some things! He is working on climbing onto the couch, and has climbed onto an outdoor folding chair a time or two.

TEETH

At 15.5 months, Henry now has 9 teeth with his second molar just about to cut through his gum. Those molars are brutal! He’s been extremely clingy and whiny over this past month or so. Poor babe.

At Levi’s recent dentist appointment, I did have her check out Henry’s front teeth and she confirmed he does have a “double tooth.” Basically, it’s just a tooth that was forming as two, but stayed fused. She said it’s not indicative of his adult tooth being like that, so hopefully it’s just a quirky kid thing!

COMMUNICATION

About a month ago (14.5 months), Henry really started to put more words together! This is really an awesome stage–I remember it well with Levi too. You can truly just see his brain working as he is trying to understand and communicate! Henry can now say:

Da-da and ma-ma (he says mama a lot more frequently 😉 )

Buh-bye

All done!

Hey

Yea!

Uh-uh (which is his way of saying “woof woof”)

I know more words are just around the corner! He also understands SO MUCH, even if he can’t say it yet. Henry get extremely excited if we say, outside, bath, shoes, doggie, milk, or hat (he just recently started wearing Levi’s hats!).

SCHEDULE

So, this is his current schedule, but I know it needs to change ASAP.

7:00 AM             Sippy (4 oz cow’s milk)

7:45 or 8 AM     Breakfast with Levi

9:30 AM            Down for nap (asleep by 10/10:30 AM)

11:30 AM           Up from nap, sippy (4 oz cow’s milk)

12:00 PM           Lunch with Levi

1:30 PM             Down for nap (asleep by 2/2:30 PM)

3:30/4 PM          Up from nap, sippy (4 oz cow’s milk) and snack

5:30/6:00 PM    Dinner with family

6:30 PM            Sippy (4 oz cow’s milk)

7:00 PM           Bed (asleep by 7:30 PM)

If I get into nursing school (we should know soon!), both boys will start school within a few weeks! If that’s the case, he’ll definitely be transitioning to a 1-nap schedule then, which might make things easier on me. I’ve kind of been waiting on that news to decide how to proceed.

Home.

IMG_4085

Today marks a full year since I jumped into my little Pontiac with our 7 week old baby and cried as I saw one of our favorite cities, Louisville, Kentucky, trail off in my rear view mirror–not knowing when or if we’d ever be back. Brian and 2.5 year old Levi led the way in the truck, all four of us making the 15 hour (turned 19 hour because children) drive down to Miami, but still without a place to call home. We knew where we were heading, but in all reality we had no clue.

A year ago today, we hit the ground running, as everything does in this giant city. A couple days of driving, a few days of hotels, a quick move to a mission house, and suddenly overnight we’re both back to work–Brian at a new store and me on my laptop–back to the daily grind in a foreign place with millions of people, but none of “our people.” Running, I tell you, freakin’ running.

And here we are. One year at lightning speed, but so heavy that I feel like my soul has aged by five. I knew this was coming too–we read all the books, we paid attention in mission school, we talked to all the people. Everyone said, by the one year mark the newness will fade. The honeymooning will be over. Real life sets in and the enemy will try to steal your vision and your joy. (Yes to all of this.)

I know for a fact that, this year, my brain has worked harder (hello more languages in Miami than I can count), my tear ducts have spilled farther, and my heart has felt lonelier than they ever have before. But praise be to God: my faith has grown deeper, my worldview grander, and my God far mightier than I had ever envisioned.

Because when we didn’t have a house for our family, He gave us the perfect one. When we felt alone, He placed lovers of Him within doors of ours. When we missed our people, He allowed us the technology to worship right along with them on Sunday mornings. When I felt that we had so little compared to many in this place, He showed me how to serve a sister who had less. When we needed to retreat as a family, the shores He made were minutes from our doorstep. When we doubted our calling and His plan for our church, He continued to lead family after family after family to our seats.

Today marks one year. To say we’ve been humbled, stretched, and hearts stirred would be a grave understatement. But one thing all the books, all the classes, all the people didn’t tell us about this milestone–a year is when it will finally feel like home.

[To all of you who have supported us financially and prayerfully over the course of this year, from the deepest parts of our hearts, we thank you. We are living in one of the most expensive cities in the US, and we can recount several times over this past year where your giving helped to offset unforeseen expenses. Just another example of God’s provision through YOU. We’re grateful.]

Henry: 13 Months Old

IMG_3171

Welp, Henry was 13 months old on July 25–so this is more like a “13.5 months old” post, but whatever. This has been a big month for you, Hens! You’re talking (babbling) more, even more expressive than ever before, and starting to become a lot more mobile!

EATING

Your eating is still out. of. control. You have started becoming very mad when I try to spoon feed anything to you–you just want finger foods so that you can control the pace at which you eat! And that’s actually kind of nice for me until we’re eating rice for dinner or yogurt for breakfast or applesauce for lunch, because not only are you controlling, but you’re MESSY. You’ll get food in your ears and all in your hair. Not to mention on the floor because you’ve learned the art of throwing food you don’t care for. We still love you though.

You are now drinking 4 – 4 oz bottles of regular whole milk each day. Earlier this month, I weaned you off the lactose free milk and you tolerated it really well. I was just tired of buying three different kinds of milk (almond milk for Brian), so we had to streamline it somewhere!

SLEEPING

Sleep is still awesome! You are ready for bed by 7 each night and we don’t hear a peep from you until 7 or 7:30 the next morning. Your naps have been a little weird lately–I think you are transitioning to less daytime sleep. I’m not quite ready for that though. You’ve started taking quite a while to fall asleep at each nap 😦

MOTOR SKILLS

Henry is consistently crawling around on all fours (belly up off the ground), cruising furniture, and pulling up on anything and everything. He isn’t super interested in trying to take steps while holding my hands yet. Sometimes I’ll put a toy out in front of him while he’s standing (with support) and he will refuse to try to step and drop right down to his knees to come get it. I know it’s still pretty early, but I’m having flashbacks to our 20 month old crawler (Levi) and hoping history doesn’t repeat itself.

TEETH

As of now, Henry has 8 teeth! 4 on bottom and 4 on top. He has been especially clingy to me lately and whining occasionally in the middle of the night, so I’m wondering if his 1 year molars are not too far off as well.

COMMUNICATION

While you have said a few words (ma-ma, da-da, yay) a few times each, you don’t really say them consistently quite yet. You are definitely putting together new sounds and babbling quite a bit more now that you turned one, so I’m not worried. One of mommy and daddy’s favorite things is to listen to you talk while we drive in the car. You love to sit in your car seat, look out the window, and just babble like crazy. It cracks us up.

INDEPENDENT PLAYTIME

Once that wonder week was over last month, you all of the sudden started having some independent playtime each day. And all on your own accord! While I clean the breakfast dishes each morning, you’ll often just crawl into your room and start playing. It’s so nice that you are becoming a little more independent now! Usually, once you see me, it’s all over, so I make sure to stay clear of your room. But I love hearing you play for even up to 20 minutes at a time!

SCHEDULE

7:00 AM             Bottle (4 oz cow’s milk)

7:45 or 8 AM     Breakfast with Levi

9:00 AM            Nap (wake around 10-10:30 AM)

11:00 AM           Bottle (4 oz cow’s milk)

12:00 PM           Lunch with Levi

1:00 PM             Nap

3:00 PM            Bottle (4 oz cow’s milk) and snack

5:30/6:00 PM    Dinner with family

6:30 PM            Bottle (4 oz cow’s milk)

7:00 PM           Bed

We love you so much, sweet babe! It’s so fun to watch you learn and grow.

Levi: 3.5 Years Old

DSC_3769

My sweet Hudson, what a precious little boy you are becoming. I cannot believe that you are already 3.5 years old–already on the verge of 4. You are growing and learning and developing your little attitude and sense of self on a daily basis. Sometimes you say and remember things that daddy and I cannot believe. You are intelligent, observant, and thoughtful–you always have been. Here’s a bit about you over these past 6 months:

EATING

You’ve become a bit more picky over these past months than you ever have been. You know what you “like” now and what you dislike, although those things change often. Mommy tries to get you in the kitchen to help as much as you’d like because that makes you a bit more adventurous with trying new foods. Overall though, you still are a fantastic eater! You favorite still remains…mac and cheese.

Your appetite seems to have decreased a bit over this past month or two. But not to worry, you have a hefty little brother who is willing to eat all your leftovers! On the Publix scale, you’re now weighing 32 lbs–so 2 lbs up from your 3 year check-up.

SLEEP

No huge noticeable changes here. You are still doing great with a 1 PM naptime, especially if we are really active in the morning. I have noticed you stay awake longer at bedtime than you used to and you are always the first one up in the morning (before Henry), so I think you are compensating with less nighttime sleep. However, you will stay in your bed/your room quietly from 7 PM to 7 AM, so I don’t plan on making any changes anytime soon. Room-sharing with Henry is going wonderfully, knock on wood. I think you both very much enjoy it! My favorite time of day is hearing you two playing together in the morning before I go in to get you.

MOTOR SKILLS

Within the past 6 months, you have mastered climbing the rock wall at the playground! I was so proud of you for even wanting to try (since you’re normally very cautious about such things). You are also currently playing soccer with Soccer Shots Miami. You are enjoying it, but get really tired about 10 minutes before class is over. 20-25 minutes is seriously your limit. Mommy has really loved watching you play your first “sport!”

13495510_10153575380360009_7372943062166374818_o

SOCIAL SKILLS

Over the past 6 months, you have truly grown in your social skills. You no longer fight with or scream at Jason and Maya and you are learning to share with Henry. Last month, you attended your first Vacation Bible School–your first time away from mommy! You had a BLAST. It was from 9-noon each day and you never wanted to leave! I know you will really enjoy preschool once we get to that point!

COMMUNICATION/ATTITUDE

You have certainly developed a little attitude over the past several months, Levi Hudson! Mommy and daddy have had to figure out how to handle this, as this is our first time parenting someone your age 😉 Usually, just talking through an issue with you really helps. You are very logical in that way.

WHAT HE’S INTO

Levi is all about superheroes right now! He has about 12 action figures now, some of which he has saved up his own money for. His favorite show is still Daniel Tiger and his favorite movie is Toy Story. He has grown to love reading books at bedtime, especially his Avengers story book. As always, he is also really into arts and crafts. He loves drawing, coloring, and painting things!

BIG BROTHER

Lastly, Levi has truly blossomed into his role as a big brother over these past few months. Now that Henry is more active and playful, it is so sweet to watch the two of them interact. Levi loves to give Henry hugs and kisses and even try to wrestle with him. They have a special bond and I’m excited to see it grow as the years unfold!

DSC_3404

We love you so so much our little Hudsey bear! It is so fun to watch you learn new things and develop into a little boy. We pray the last 6 months of your 3rd year are full of new experiences and lots of fun!

Henry: One Year Old

Henry 12

Happy birthday, Henry Hugglemonster (as Levi so lovingly calls you)! We cannot believe you are already 1 year old–and that we survived a year with you. You are our sweet, demanding, passionate baby! Always on the move and always wanting something! It has been such a good, challenging year of growth for ALL of us. Here’s a little bit about you at 12 months old:

EATING

Today was our last day of nursing! I’m a little emotional about this, but I know we are both ready to move forward, onto this next stage. You love love love your bottles of milk! I’ve started laying you on your boppy pillow for each feeding and you down your milk in minutes. For some reason, I’m liking the bottles for now. You know how to use a sippy (your Munchkin 360 cup) just fine, so I’m not worried about the transition to that when we’re ready. We are currently doing lactose free milk, since regular milk was giving you a bit of diarrhea.

Solids are pretty much the same! You’re still crazy about food and weighed in at 22 lbs this week to show for it (up 4 lbs since your 9 month appointment). Your doctor was really impressed by this! Your favorite food right now are ham and cheese sandwiches. Hah!

SLEEP

You’ve been sleeping awesome this month! You’ve always been an amazing sleeper (aside from those months of 5 AM wakings), but this month you even started sleeping past 7 AM some days! I’ve really enjoyed that 😉

MOTOR SKILLS

Henry is crawling on all fours some of the time! He’s definitely trying to do that more and more often, but will resort to scooting on his belly when he wants to get somewhere fast. He also started pulling up to his feet a lot more over the past couple of weeks! His favorite place to do that is the tub, of course. He has also begun to go from a crawling position to a sitting position, which is especially adorable when I go to get him out of his crib!

TEETH

You now have 6 teeth–2 have just popped through over the past two days! And I think there are two more about to cut through your gums! You’ve been in a lot of pain lately from that. Last week, I could tell you were in a lot of pain and you just wanted your paci and blankie and kept laying your head down on the floor. Poor baby! Levi was so sweet and kept laying next to you and rubbing your head.

WONDER WEEK

We are back in a wonder week, but it hasn’t been too bad this past week. The first week (last week) was terrible. You were awfully clingy and whiny!

SCHEDULE

7:00 AM             Nurse

7:45 or 8 AM     Breakfast with Levi

9:00 AM            Nap (wake around 10-10:30 AM)

11:00 AM           Bottle (4 oz cow’s milk)

12:00 PM           Lunch with Levi

1:00 PM             Nap

3:00 PM            Bottle (4 oz cow’s milk) and snack

5:30/6:00 PM    Dinner with family

6:30 PM            Bottle (4 oz cow’s milk)

7:00 PM           Bed

DSC_4305

We love you so much, Henry Owen! Even though you drive us crazy sometimes, we would never trade you for anyone else in the world. It is so sweet to see you beginning to play with your brother and get giddy with excitement when you see your daddy! I hope that your zeal and motivation in life only continue to grow!

Happy birthday.

Henry: Eleven Months Old

13305221_10153513237740009_993084413312140540_o

Nooo!! How has this happened?! How are we already one month away from your first birthday? Mommy is in denial. Here’s some info about our Henry this past month.

EATING

This is about the same! He’s still ravenous as ever, pretty much out-eating Levi at every meal. He’s packed on some chunk to show for it too!

We began the weaning process this month. I’m not crying, really. I went away on a 2-day women’s retreat for church, so it seemed natural to begin him on some whole milk before that trip. He has done really well with it. It’s been about 2 weeks now of getting cow’s milk in a bottle at his 3 PM feeding and Henry really hasn’t seemed to mind one bit. Occasionally, around dinnertime, he’ll start grabbing at my shirt like he wants to nurse, but once he gets some food for dinner he’s fine. I’ve been wanting to get him used to cow’s milk a bit longer (maybe another week or two) before we drop another feeding.

SLEEP

Knock on wood, Henry has been sleeping wonderfully this month. Typically 7 PM until at least 6:30 every morning! I am so glad we are passed the early wakings! In preparation for my women’s retreat, I really wanted to stick to my guns and not feed him if he woke up earlier than 6:30 (because I didn’t have enough milk to leave with Brian for that extra feeding), and I think that has really seemed to help Henry kick the habit and start extending his morning sleep.

VOCABULARY AND MOTOR SKILLS

You are army crawling everywhere now–and getting into all sorts of mischief! You’re super fast! We know that you can support your weight on all fours, but when it comes time for you to move somewhere, you just plop down on your belly and get on your way. I know true crawling will come, in time.

Henry says, “da-da” and “ma” now! It’s so sweet. He has only ever said “ma” when he’s screaming on the floor, but I’ll take it. Occasionally, he’ll say “ba-ba” or “gee-gee”. It’s fun to start hearing him put consonants and vowels together!

TEETH

Henry has 4 teeth now (3 on bottom and 1 on top) and I’m pretty sure another soon to follow! That 1st top tooth was a doosy–he was screaming in pain for many days straight. Poor guy.

WONDER WEEK

Leap #7 is finally done with! Praise the Lord! You are finally getting back to your somewhat content self. After the leap was over, you learned to clap with both hands together, get Cheerios out of your Munchkin snacker, raise your arms when we say “How big is Henry?” and you now throw fits during every diaper change :-/

Henry at 9 months old (bottom) and 10 months old (top).

Sorry, little brother. Time seems to have gotten away from me these past two months and I’ve forgotten to blog your monthly update! You have grown and learned so much these past 8 weeks. All of the sudden, you have gone from a baby to a sweet little pre-toddler. Sounds weird, but you have become much more of a big boy lately–you’ll laugh at things that are funny, you’re playing more with your brother, and you are finally starting to sleep later in the mornings. All signs that you’re getting way to big for mommy’s liking. I would love to bottle you up and keep you this age forever (minus this nasty wonder week we’re currently getting through, but more on that later).

EATING

You are still such an amazing eater! At 9 months old, it seemed you had finally settled down some–you still loved to eat LOTS, but you were less demanding at the table. However, that was short-lived. Once you began leap #7 at 10 months old, you suddenly remembered how to use your voice to get food. This is one thing that is really hard for mommy, but I know it’s a learning process. I’ve been letting you self-feed a lot, simply because you whine (read: scream) less when you can eat at your own pace.

Your favorites are beans (still), rice, anything with tomato sauce, and yogurt. Speaking of yogurt, over the last couple of weeks (10 months old), we started introducing more dairy into your diet and you are tolerating it well! We started with yogurt and then continued with some cheese. BIG improvements since I incorporated dairy back into my diet. You had pizza for the first time this month and couldn’t get enough! Also this month, you have mastered your Munchkin 360 cup. You love drinking water from it!

You are still nursing at 7, 11, 3 and 6:30ish. We usually have to sit on my bed because Mr. Nosey can’t handle any noise or he is distracted for good! But 5-10 minutes tops and you’re back in on the action.

SLEEP

Sleep is still pretty much the same. I started waking you at 10 AM from your first nap, so that you are ready to go back to sleep at 1 PM when Levi takes his nap. At 10 months old, you are FINALLY extending your morning sleep again (this hasn’t been the case since you turned 4 months old). Praise Jesus! Most mornings you will sleep until 6:30 now, which I can live with. Hopefully that will only keep extending to our DWT of 7. I remember that’s when morning sleep really clicked for Levi too.

You have been sharing a room with Levi for 2 months and are an old pro now! You love your crib and it’s the sweetest thing to hear you guys laughing and playing together each morning. Occasionally you will wake once in the middle of the night, but we’ve had a busy month so far with you sleeping in odd places, so I’m sure with some consistency that’ll work itself out again. At 10 months old, you have finally learned how to re-insert your own paci–an answer to many of my prayers 😉

NEW DEVELOPMENTS

  • Wonder week #7 is in full force. It’s the pits. You just want to be held all day, every day. You were amazingly content at 9 months though.
  • You have 3 bottom teeth! They make your smile even cuter.
  • You scoot all over the place–you even fell off the hotel bed this month because mommy left you for 3 seconds. Yikes! You are slowly but surely figuring out how to get onto all fours and support yourself.
  • You LOVE showers! I’m beginning to question why we are remodeling your bathroom to install a tub.
  • You hate hats, adore the beach (eating the sand–bleh!), think popsicles are the bomb, and you dance whenever you hear music.

Henry: Eight Months Old

Would you look at that (^) face!? Hard to believe he is already 8 months old and sweet as ever. Here’s a recap on our Henry from this past month:

EATING

Henry Owen is still the big eater of the family! This baby can down some food. Even when I think I’ve made too much for him, he surprises me by wanting even more. He continues to have oatmeal mixed with applesauce each morning for breakfast, but then he eats whatever we eat for lunch and dinner. He still loves beans and chicken, and tried strawberries, cantaloupe, deli turkey, and PB&J this month. The PB&J was a HUGE hit (are we surprised?).

He still nurses 4 times daily as well, but has become much more distracted recently. If Levi is awake, I usually have to nurse him on my bed. Not a big deal though!

SLEEP

Naps are about the same! Typically two 2-hour naps each day. He has been cutting his morning nap a bit short some days though, which is pretty normal I think. He is doing MUCH better with the long wake time between waking from his afternoon nap and bedtime. If we go out during that time, sometimes he’ll take a 10-15 minute catnap in the car, but generally he can handle the 4 hour stretch now.

Nighttime is going….better? Pretty much the same as last month I guess. As long as he goes to bed on time, it’s a pretty sure thing that he’ll sleep a solid 10 hours (so usually until 5 AM). Every once in a while he’ll extend to 6 AM. But usually, if I just give him a half-feed and put him right back in his crib, he’ll sleep until 7 AM. So I really think the waking is just a habit (and it’s getting annoying), but I really don’t want to deal with CIO at that time of the morning–it’s just miserable for everyone. Praying he begins extending to his DWT soon!

The boys are still in separate rooms as well.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS

  • We are officially back in a Wonder Week (leap 6). It doesn’t seem to be as bad as the previous two were.
  • His first tooth has emerged all the way and I’m fairly certain he has another one coming! So much drooling and chewing on anything in sight.
  • Henry is now unsafe on the couch or beds…if he is on his belly, he will scoot backwards right on off. I know from experience. Still not a ton of floor scooting though!
  • He LOVES his daddy. Brian and Henry have really bonded this past month. They even went on their first “boys outing” (including Levi) to Bass Pro. Big milestone!
  • Henry is doing much better at mealtime. He is still pretty demanding, but no longer shrieks–instead he just hits the table when he wants more. I can live with that. He has also gotten MUCH better at self-feeding real food this month, so as long as I keep him stocked up on goodies, he is content to sit in his chair and keep on eating.
